"An interesting proposition." She said in response to the mortals’ bold request, a sultry smile fixed in place rendering her irresistible, fangs concealed so as not to frighten him prematurely. That would spoil the fun. "Yes, why don't we? I'm famished." A spark of amusement in her night dark eyes at her own pun. Her prey smiled with her hesitantly, not getting the joke. He had no idea who or what she was only that he wanted her with a passion he'd never known.

Brief piece written to accompany LDK's "A Sad Raine" recently posted. Since it is so short, I didn't consider it worthy of posting as a deviance.

In her hand lay the most precious of all gifts Raine had ever received, a pair of jeweled dragonfly earrings. The final gift from her lost love, Cillian. Taken from her in the prime of life suddenly, tragically. They had been wed for less than a year the fateful day he stepped off the curb, struck and killed by a careless driver. It left her numb, disbelieving at first. How could this have happened to them, him?

As the shock wore off and reality set in, Raine clung to the dragonflies as if they were all she had left of Cillian, carrying them with her wherever she went.

Struck through the heart by a lance of grief at the thought of him, she gazed down upon the earrings sparkling in her palm, astonished by how they seemed to come to life... a piece of his soul left within, she thought and for the first time since it had happened, felt peace.
